Artist Noriko Yumoto creates unique Hina dolls called "Hinamame" with a delicate sense of color.
These small Hina dolls cherish ancient Japanese traditions and beautiful customs, while also being easy to display and enjoy in modern living spaces. The appeal of "Hinamame" lies in the meticulous handiwork down to the smallest detail.
These Kimekomi Hina dolls have an adorable, plump, bean-like form. For their kimonos, rare antique fabrics passed down from the Meiji and Taisho eras to the early Showa period are used. The fine fabrics, such as Edo chirimen (crepe) and those with delicate embroidery and shibori (tie-dyeing), were found throughout Japan. Their unique colors, patterns, and textures add an elegant touch.
The gentle expressions of the Hina dolls and Inubako (dog boxes) are carefully painted by skilled doll-face artisans. The auspicious motif ohajiki (glass marbles) are individually crafted from stone clay molds, then layered with soft colors. When displayed on beeswax-finished Takatsuki (pedestal trays), they take on a rich expressiveness.
The vermilion-lacquered Bonbori (oil lamps), the imperial stands edged with antique fabric from the prestigious Takimura Art Weaving, and the Maridama (decorative balls) meticulously wrapped with each strand of lustrous silk thread. These delicately crafted accessories create a vibrant and festive atmosphere.
For the gold folding screen, we specially ordered gold paper from Rekiseisha, renowned for its use by GUCCI and HERMES, as well as famous hotels and museums, loved by people all over the world. Rekiseisha's unique foil stamping technique, which inherits ancient Japanese aesthetics, maintains its dignified brilliance through the ages. On the reverse side, charming plum and pine designs are adorned with Chiyogami paper, giving a joyful impression.
"Hinamame" blends seamlessly with any interior, whether French or Scandinavian.
They are not only chosen as gifts for the first Hina Matsuri but also as a reward for oneself, or as a seasonal decoration to be enjoyed like arranging flowers.
They are delivered in a custom-made Paulownia wood box. The Paulownia wood, excellent in insect repellency, rot prevention, moisture resistance, and fire resistance, carefully protects the delicate Hina dolls.
It serves not only as a storage box but also as a beautiful display stand, easy to take out and put away. The joy of being able to display them without fuss is wonderful.
Why not casually display them in your entryway or cabinet and create your own stylish Hina Matsuri?
