CURTAIN INSTALLATION

How to Install Curtains

Blanc de Juillet curtains are custom-made one by one to fit your windows. No special tools are required, making them easy to install even for first-timers.

Simply hook the hooks or ribbons onto the rail or rod. Once you get the hang of it, installation can be done in about 2-3 minutes. Length adjustments can also be made by changing the hook position or folding the fabric.

Before installation, please check that the number of hooks/ribbons matches the number of rail runners or rod rings.

HOW TO INSTALL

Installation Method by Finish

Recommended size: W 1000px × H 750px

A-Hook

Attach to the upper section of the gathering tape. This creates a light finish where a bit of the rail is visible.

B-Hook

Attach to the lower section of the gathering tape. Suitable when you want to hide the rail.

STYLE 01

Gathered Curtains

Insert hooks into the gathering tape on the back and hang them on the runners of the curtain rail or the rings of the curtain rod.

The hook spacing is approximately 10-12 cm. By shifting the hooks up or down, the length can be adjusted by about 3 cm.

For Rails
A-hooks create a light finish where a bit of the rail is visible, while B-hooks are suitable when you want to hide the rail.

For Rods
B-hooks are recommended to minimize the gap with the rod.
Installation Steps
STEP 1Check number of hooks
STEP 2Check number of runners
STEP 3Hang fixed side/both ends
STEP 4Hang the rest in order

STYLE 02

Ribbon Curtains

Tie the ribbons at the top of the curtain to adjustable rings added to the rail, or to the rings of the curtain rod, for installation.

This creates a soft, handmade look, reminiscent of French windows.

For Rails
Add adjustable rings to the rail runners and tie the ribbons. If there is a curtain box, the knots will be mostly hidden.

For Rods
Pass rings through the rod and tie the ribbons to the rings. Spacing of approximately 10-12 cm is recommended.
Installation Steps
STEP 1Support on shoulder
STEP 2Check number of ribbons
STEP 3Tie from both ends
STEP 4Tie the rest in order

STYLE 03

Using an Untailored Cloth

This method involves using a cloth that can be used as a curtain, bedspread, throw, or tablecloth, and securing it with hook clips or ring clips.

By folding the top to resemble a valance, you can create a casual and relaxed window display.

Instead of matching the exact window height, aiming for a length that leaves about 10 cm on the floor will create a fuller, more reassuring finish. Clip spacing of approximately 10-12 cm is recommended.
Installation Steps
STEP 1Fold back top edge
STEP 2Secure with clips
STEP 3Hang on rail/rod
STEP 4Adjust hem and spacing

CHANDELIER INSTALLATION

Chandelier Installation Method

Most chandeliers made overseas are designed for "direct wiring" (direct connection) to the ceiling wiring. Depending on the product, they may not be compatible with the standard ceiling rosette in Japanese homes.

At Blanc de Juillet, we inspect the weight, structure, and safety of lighting fixtures. For products that can be installed with a ceiling rosette, our Japanese electricians modify them to be compatible before delivery.

For products where installation with a ceiling rosette is unsuitable due to weight or structure, we prioritize safety and offer them in their original direct-wiring specification.

For direct-wired products, please always entrust installation to a qualified electrician. Attempting to install it yourself is extremely dangerous.

INSTALLATION METHOD

Difference Between Ceiling Rosette and Direct Wiring

Please check the installation specifications on the product page and install using the method appropriate for the product.

CEILING SOCKET

What is a Ceiling Rosette?

This is a common installation method in Japanese homes where a lighting plug is inserted into a wiring device installed on the ceiling and twisted to secure it.

It can be installed without electrical work, but it may not be suitable depending on the weight or structure of the chandelier.

At Blanc de Juillet, we modify products to be compatible with ceiling rosettes only for those that can be used safely, and then deliver them.

DIRECT WIRING

What is Direct Wiring?

This is an installation method where the wiring from the ceiling and the wiring of the lighting fixture are directly connected and fixed to the ceiling.

While common for chandeliers made overseas, installation requires a qualified electrician.

For heavy products or those unsuitable for ceiling rosettes due to their structure, we offer them with direct wiring specifications.
PLACEMENT

Chandelier Installation Position

In Japanese homes, placing it above furniture rather than in the center of the room creates a beautiful balance while minimizing a sense of oppression.

Avoid walkways and
align with the center of furniture.

While it's common to hang chandeliers in the center of the room in countries with high ceilings, for Japanese homes, we recommend installing them above tables, sofas, or beds.

Focusing on furniture naturally draws the eye, balancing the chandelier and the entire space. It also reduces the risk of hitting your head as people are less likely to walk directly underneath.

HEIGHT GUIDE

Guide to Installation Height

Adjust according to the height of your furniture and the size of the chandelier. The following are approximate guidelines for the distance from the floor to the lowest part of the chandelier.

DINING

Above the dining table

Approx. 165cm

Since there's a table, people rarely walk directly underneath, so hanging it lower enhances the chandelier's beauty.

LIVING

Sofa / Living room

Approx. 175〜180cm

This height minimizes the risk of hitting your head when standing up, allowing you to enjoy the chandelier's presence without feeling overwhelmed.

BEDROOM

At the foot of the bed

Approx. 160〜170cm

If placed over a bed, it can be installed a little lower, creating a hotel-like impression.

OPEN CEILING

Atria / Stair halls

Height where it's fully visible

The position is determined based on where the entire chandelier looks most beautiful when viewed from the first floor.

In areas where people walk, ensure the height is sufficient to avoid head contact. If placed over furniture like tables, sofas, or beds, it can be installed a little lower.
