Aiming to replicate antique furniture, our pieces are crafted using 19th-century construction methods.
Therefore, chemical treatments such as waterproofing are minimized,
and the finish is applied to avoid excessive gloss.
The furniture is designed to develop its unique charm through use with a dry cloth,
allowing you to enjoy its natural aging process.
While using care oils or waxes is not an issue,
the color will deepen with repeated application.
We recommend testing it in an inconspicuous area
to enjoy experimenting with color changes.
If the top board is wiped with a wet cloth every time, it will crack after a few years.
To prevent cracking,
painting and varnishing would easily stop it,
but it would result in a very glossy finish, like common mass-produced items.
With such a finish,
scratches would simply look messy, and aging would just appear old.

This is a crucial mark introduced by the Indonesian government for global nature conservation. It certifies that no illegal logging has occurred and that the wood is sourced from plantations, not natural or protected forests.
*Blanc de Juillet applies waterproofing after arrival in Japan. This makes it less prone to stains from wet items and more resistant to scratches than conventional products, but please be careful as placing hot items may leave marks.
*The waterproofing applied in Japan is a simple waterproofing, so if water spills, it will naturally soak in after about an hour.
We use simple waterproofing to avoid affecting the texture with shine and luster that full waterproofing would create.
*To achieve an antique-like texture, a natural finish is used. Scratches and worn-out stains are painted on. If you look closely, they are meticulously drawn with a brush.

※This product uses solid wood, so the wood may expand and contract depending on the season. It contracts in winter when dry and expands in summer due to humidity. For this reason, no guide rails are installed. Please note that the drawers may become difficult to open and close if the wood expands.
※Please open and close the drawers gently with both hands. Forcing them open with one hand may cause malfunctions.
※Cracks may occur depending on the humidity level in the air. Solid wood adapts to environmental humidity, temperature, and exposure to sunlight, so it may continue to move for years if placed in direct sunlight or too close to heat sources such as radiators or fireplaces.
※You may notice the smell of wood or paint when opening doors or drawers. This will naturally dissipate after a period of use, but if it bothers you, please use a commercially available deodorizer. Please note that the product has been properly stored in our warehouse.

even if made of solid wood, may have thin plywood or other materials coated on them.
This is to make minor cracks less noticeable,
or to prevent minor cracks from occurring by hardening them with a coating material.
Blanc de Juillet's original furniture
is crafted with the concept of becoming an antique in the future,
unlike commonly distributed furniture.
Since coating would diminish the natural material feel,
we do not apply special coatings, but instead use traditional methods inherited from the 1800s.
We hope you will enjoy the fine cracks and the texture acquired through use.
There is no solid wood that will never crack.
Even if dried for decades during manufacturing, cracks can still appear due to shrinkage.
To minimize cracking as much as possible,
while there are individual differences, please be careful not to let it dry out.
Upon arrival, the furniture is inspected by a specialized furniture company,
and before shipping, it undergoes a second inspection by the shipping company.
If you are particular about minor details, please refrain from applying.
